Heritage Park Festival of Quilts

This past weekend Calgary hosted the 19th Annual Festival of Quilts at Heritage Park.  This two day event features hundreds of quilts on display, a tent full of vendors, demonstrations, and the like.  Heritage Park’s quaint character buildings provided an appropriately interesting backdrop to showcase the beautiful quilts.

My lovely friend Krista attended the festival with me – you will be pleased to hear she is a new quilter herself ;) she is currently making her first quilt – a cozy, flannel baby quilt.

Krista admiring a striking modern quilt... in the basement.

One thing I found rather odd about the festival was that many of the modern quilts were being displayed in the basement. They were draped over vintage car to create quite an interesting display…. but in my opinion, the basement is the basement.   I would have never even seen them if I hadn’t been talking to a woman representing the Calgary Modern Quilt Guild

This is just a sampling of the many quilts on display – If you ever visit Calgary in late May, try aligning your trip with this weekend – it’s definitely worth a look!

I agree with you…No quilt should be in the BASEMENT… modern or otherwise!! Some stunning quilts on display..love the cathedral windows with the modern fabric…and the one after it! Lovely! Then there is the grey and yellow beauty!! Might have to pop in for a visit next May!! “I’m HERE!!” :o)))

Love the DWR & the grey & yellow. Glad you found the modern quilts – hopefully they will be elevated from the basement next time.
