100 Modern Quilt Blocks by Tula Pink

I have been meaning to pick up a copy of Tula Pink’s “100 Modern Quilt Blocks” for quite some time.  I noticed it at one of my LQS’s recently and was quick to snap it up.  I am so glad I did!  I have only made a few of the blocks so far, but they are a ton of fun, and a great way to use up scraps!

The layout of the pages is quite neat – a photo of the completed block on the left hand side, and a lovingly illustrated diagram of how the block is contracted on the right (my completed blocks are covering the diagram in the photos).

I think I will do a multicoloured ROYGBIV-style arrangement of colours, and although I would love to have it done in time for my visit home this summer (hello Sweet P’s mid arm!), I have a feeling this will take a while to complete as a side project. In any case, I am enjoying the challenge of completing so many different blocks – this is going to be a skill-builder, for sure!  Along with many others, I will track my progress on Instagram with the hashtag #tula100, so be sure to check in to see how I’m doing!

You will have to show me what Instagram is all about this summer and teach this old dog some new tricks! Love the blocks…can’t wait to see it all together! The mid-arm will be all fired up and waiting…haha

I love the colours you are using. They’re going to make for a great looking quilt.

I have the ebook version of this book and keep being drawn to it. Just yesterday I saw Gridlock as an entry in the Small Quilt category of the Bloggers Quilt Festival. No sashing, just the blocks joined together. That was IT!!! for me, the perfect setting. I’m gone, hook, line & sinker – just have to gather my fabrics and find the time. Am so looking forward to following your progress with these blocks.
